Mama Duke is an Austin based hip-hop artist. She is a 2x Austin Hip-Hop Award winner, a 1x Austin Music Award nominee, a 2020 SXSW Official Showcase Artist, and the January 2020 Austin American-Statesmen Artist of the Month. She is blowing up right now. But beyond her success, she is real as hell, funny af, and has a ton to share. We talk songwriting, quiting her day job, expanding interests, what it’s like to be a queer, female rapper and finding space for Black artists in the Austin music scene. MMH was my COVID baby. As a full time musician, I lost all my work in the pandemic and the site became my creative sustenance. Today, I feel so blessed by our amazing team and inspired writing. Beyond MMH, I am the music teacher at Rise Prep in Springfield, MA, a loving husband, and proud father to Fiona.
